As promised I am trying my best to stay consistent in posting my weekly articles and when I thought of this weeks TTRT, well it made doing this one a lot easier. Why you ask? Because I knew for the time it would take me to write the article I would get to listen to remixes and bootlegs of one of my favorite voices in music today, Florence Welch. Yes this weeks thing that rules is none other than the amazing English singer/songwriter and lead singer of Florence and the Machine, the lovely Florence Welch. The 26 year old has been nominated for a Grammy, among many other awards and in 2010 her album ‘Lungs’ won the Brit Award for Best British Album of the Year. She recently collaborated with Calvin Harris on their track ‘Sweet Nothing’ which you will hear a remix of below. Florence has been remixed by some of the biggest names in EDM and I would like to showcase in this post some of those remixes. Some have been posted on this site before and some haven’t, you may have some of them, others you might not. Either way enjoy all the tracks in this post and wonder at how original and lovely Florence’s voice is.
BONUS: Hey, the originals are awesome too (plus I love the videos for these two)…
Here goes nothing, my write up of All Mixed Up on Saturday October 27, 2012 in New York City at Pier 94 featuring the incredible talents of Sebastian Ingrosoo, Alesso and Otto Knows. First and foremost another amazing job by the event team at Pacha NYC for putting this thing together at such a large venue, always a flawless production. This was my first time attending a show at Pier 94 so I was unsure of exactly how the venue is set up, its kind of outdoors but in a large tent so its also a bit indoors I suppose. Now this was of course a Halloween show and along with I guess you could say it’s sister show, The Haunted Coliseum at Nassau, the DJs played a set at the Coliseum then made their way to the Pier right afterwards for their sets their. Pretty genius idea to sellout to enormous arenas and have it worked out so easily. Enough introduction lets get to the sets starting with Otto Knows, who I did miss a good chunk of because as usual I was late but I did get some of his set so continue reading here!
September saw remixes from Feede Le Grand, John Dahlback, Afrojack, Deniz Koyu, and Dada Life but none were better than Tiesto’s remix of Calvin Harris and Florence Welch’s ‘Sweet Nothing’ in our minds. What was your favorite remix of September and check out the full list here.
The king is back again after his two recent hits ‘People Of The Night’ which was a collab with AN21 and Max Vangeli’s, and his hit ‘Hell Yeah’ which was a track he did with Showtek. This time he is remixing Calvin Harris and Florence Welch’s hugh huge huge track ‘Sweet Nothing’. The song features such powerful vocals from Florence… Tiesto takes those beautiful vocals and gives them a huge synth led drop. This one’s def in the running for best remix of September, so grab it today and enjoy!
Real excited to post this one mostly because it is a collab between Nicky Romero and Calvin Harris. The track is called ‘Iron’ and I have been real excited for this one ever since he dropped it at EDC NYC and I have been unsure of its release until I heard Calvin drop it at the VMAs the other day. Well it is exactly what you would expect an absolutely huge song with a huge buildup dropping into one of Nicky Romero’s signature super heavy drops. After the first drop Calvin comes in with his always amazing vocals and the combination of these two on a track is really an amazing thing. Great to see even with all the commercial success Calvin has been getting lately he is still down to make a straight incredible EDM track that really has no potential to be commercially successful, on the radio I mean obviously because in the EDM world this track is gonna be absolutely huge and played in most DJs sets for the rest of the year and beyond. Don’t miss out on this one, Enjoy!
That time of the year has come again where EDM fans send in their top 5 favorite DJ/Producers in to DJ Mag in order for them to calculate their top 100 list. We have decided (LJ and I) to post each of our 5 picks and give you guys a little write up as to why we came to our conclusions. Now the Top 100 list has definitely come under scrutiny as of late (the past few years) as to how accurate or even relevant it actually is in ranking who the best in the world are. My opinion, the list itself is not really very accurate at all but instead serves as a fun way for fans of the artist to show their support and try to help their favorites climb the list. In essence it is a strange popularity contest that really holds no merit in actual DJing or Producing skill. That being said I think it is definitely something that has become a sort of tradition in the EDM world that needs to keep being done year after year to give the fans that sense of happiness they gain from voting. Anyway I give you my 5 picks (in order) for the 2012 DJ Mag Top 100 list, read on! Continue reading
